ITCO Tank Container e-learning is an online tank container course developed by the International Tank Container Organisation (ITCO). The course aims are to further enhance the safe, competent and efficient use of tank containers. The contents are maintained within the scope of the IMDG Code, concerning the operation of portable tanks.

The lessons allow users to achieve an awareness about the operation of portable tanks as prescribed by the IMDG Code and additionally provide steps towards function specific learning. The tank container course is also relevant for those involved in the transport of non-dangerous goods.

Course content
The course comprises of elements covering:

Introduction to tank containers – covering the scope and learning objectives of this course, introduce tank container types and their use, safety features and environmental sustainability.

Tank parts and service equipment – provides an introduction to the parts of tank, it’s service equipment and their purpose.

Tank provisions in the IMDG Code – introduces you to the IMDG Code and explains the process to determine the appropriate Portable Tank Instruction and Tank Provision for a dangerous substance.

Tank Design, Construction, Use and Marking provisions in the IMDG Code – focusing on some of the design, construction and use provisions for portable tanks, procedures for determining the correct degree of filling for portable tanks and provisions relating to placarding and marking.

Tank operator’s transport plan – this recaps some of the previous regulatory content in this course in the context of a case study of an operational transport plan.

Tank depot processes – introduces the operator to typical tank depot processes when moving a tank in/out of a depot facility.

Tank cleaning – introduces the operator to tank cleaning processes.

Maintenance and repair – introduces the operator to tank maintenance and repair, including damage estimate preparation and acceptable container condition.

Inspection and test – looks at the periodic test and inspection requirements.
